About Urban Pedaler

WHAT IS URBAN PEDALER ABOUT?

The shop's owner Gabe spent ten years managing large, successful sporting goods and bike shops in California, then another eleven working in dealer development and sales management for Specialized bikes and Cannondale. His many years working for and managing leading retailers followed by a career in the supply side of the bike world gave him a great understanding of brands, product, bike fitting, retail presentation, community engagement, and service levels that are required to build and maintain a successful bicycle shop. During his time working on the manufacturing side he traveled the world working with and training some of the best retailers in the bike business. His goal is to bring the best ideas and practices from around the world into a local Melbourne shop that will cater to everyone from families and commuters, to mountain bikers and the Bayside's huge road riding community. Gabe and his carefully chosen team are committed to delivering the best retail presentation along with a peerless level of service to match. They will ensure that it has the look and feel of a proper “third place”, a place you can call a home away from home to share your enthusiasm and passion with like-minded people.

Gabe Sullens

Gabe has twenty five years of industry experience with time spent at Supergo Bike Shops in California, Specialized headquarters in California, Taiwan, and Australia, and some time with Cannondale in Sydney.  While traveling the world doing dealer development for hundreds of bike shops, he has experienced some of the best and worst of bicycle retail.  Armed with a list of best practices, great ideas, and best intentions, he opened this shop with an eye on delivering the best experience with buying a bike and long term rider support.  He’s a long time mountain biker, leads a weekly nightride at Lysterfield, stays fit in between mountain bike rides by riding his road bike on Beach road.

Supporting and Involvement with Local Business Community

As a purveyor of high quality products and services, we strive to earn the loyalty of local riders with one of the best retail experiences one could expect.  We pride ourselves on presentation, the brands we choose to support, the level of service we offer and our collective expertise in all areas of cycling.  In an internet age of online shopping, it’s a highly competitive arena we choose to be in, but with the support of the local community who hopefully appreciate what we offer, we will be around for decades to come.  We aim to be an important part of the bayside fabric and support as many local businesses and schools as possible.

Our growing list of community involvement can be viewed here.
