ROAD RIDES in Melbourne

7AM Saturday No-Drop Road Ride – Beach Road

Distance: 40km

Avg Speed: 28km/hr

Group size: Varies from 10-30 riders

Departs: 7:00 AM sharp – someone is at the shop from 6:45AM

The shop crew leads a group ride that departs from the shop at 7:00 sharp and rides to the Mordialloc turn-around and back, via South Rd and Beach Rd.  Although the group is stocked with veterans of road riding, we welcome all riders with the right equipment and spirit.  “No-drop” means we stay together as a group and reel in the faster riders at the front while working with any people in the back of the group – offering a push when needed to get that last few meters to get back on the train.  Since riding in the city can be intimidating to many, it’s safest in bunches and with a few pointers on etiquette and group riding dynamics, it can be a very fulfilling way to get your fitness, not to mention the social aspects.  Join us for coffee in the store afterwards and the occasional muffin or scone, depending on who attends.  And, as usual, the ride is best enjoyed while riding in a quality Sugoi kit, custom to Urban Pedaler.  Give us a call if you have any questions.  9557 6461

6AM Saturday No-Drop Road Ride – Beach Road

Distance: 70km

Avg Speed: 30+km/hr

Group size: Varies from 10-30 riders

Departs: 6:00 AM sharp – someone is usually at the shop from 5:45AM

This ride departs form the shop and heads down Nepean Hwy through Frankston and up Oliver’s Hill.  We then ride back to meet up with the 7AM ride that arrives in Mordialloc at the same time.  Both rides head off together back through Blackrock and back to the shop via South Road.  Coffee and banana bread afterwards is provided for anyone who has the time.  It’s a slightly faster ride than the 7AM and our aim is to stay together and work on rolling turns and group dynamics, drafting and other techniques.

Check in with our Facebook page, we’ll also be doing some other road rides as the future develops:

  • Women’s ride – Ladies only, social, and learning to ride safely in a group
  • Kids ride – learning rules of the road and riding in a safe group
  • Hit the Hills! – Adventure rides outside of the city – scenery, climbing & burning some calories

NIGHTRIDING

We ride every Wednesday night at Lysterfield and sometimes Red Hill.  Some of our regulars like to lead rides in their favorite trails, so we like to mix it up a bit.  The lighting requirements for mountain biking are a lot more than road, we like at least 2500 lumen lights or better as a primary light and maybe something extra as a backup or for a supplemental helmet unit – 900-1200.  We keep a few lights around to try, let us know a few days ahead of time if you would like to try one and we’ll reserve one for you.

Nightriding can be extremely fun with no one else on the trails and with good light it’s just as safe as riding during the day.  We leave the shop just after close at 6PM and like to be on trail just after 7pm.  Hitch a ride with one of us and borrow a light, come see what all the buzz is about.

OTHER BIKE RIDES

Sunday Road and Mountain rides

Sunday mornings, we like to get dirty.  Throughout the spring, summer and autumn, we like to head out with a group and do something a little different.  A mountain ride at the YouYangs in summer, a day of road climbing leading up to Around the Bay in October, you name it.  Inquire with Gabe about the next ride planned, or even ask us to lead a custom one for you and your friends.   03 9557 6461
